Monday Music: Better Than Ezra, Porcelain (Voodoo Version)
New Orleans based Better Than Ezra is quite possibly my most favorite band ever.
And I have an insane amount of music as well as a very eclectic taste. LastFM sticks BTW in the “Jangle Pop” category, but they’re far too moody for me to agree. Many of their songs inevitably make it onto the playlists I create for my writing projects.
I’ve seen them live several times and their performances are as tight as the studio recordings, unless they throw in a little voodoo
like they did on this version of Porcelain, which is fantastic.
It always makes me think of vampires…but so do a lot of their songs.
Update: Pretty sure this version of Porcelain is from BTE’s House of Blues DVD, as is this one of Live Again.
Kevin Griffin talks about their How Does Your Garden Grow? album, my personal favorite. It’s moody and filled with angst, melodic rock. All my favorite things.
It’s a great DVD and I highly recommend it if you like them at all.
And, no, they’re not tellin’ the story behind who’s better than Ezra, but it is a line from Hemingway’s A Movable Feast:
“Anything was better than Ezra learning to play the bassoon…”
